As active members, we are continuously working on building the cooperative. You can find out the current status (and how you can get involved) at linktr.ee/exhausbleibt, on our social media channels, and at our open meetings, which always take place on the last Wednesday of the month at the district café of the Bürgerhaus Trier-Nord.
The city council has decided that Trier's expression of interest procedure, followed by the award to a potential investor, will take place in the second half of 2026. As a non-profit cooperative, we aim to be successful in the award process. The city will determine the necessary and required data and figures for this tender (e.g., subsidy assessment, ground rent amount). These are also relevant for our business plan (the core of the cooperative), which will be reviewed by the Genoverband and is a prerequisite for the cooperative's registration. The Genoverband recommends a cooperative in formation for the transition period and a founding meeting with a small group (only members of Zukunft im eXhaus e.V.).

The public launch event, where citizens can become members of the cooperative for the first time, will take place on 21.05.2026 at 6 p.m. in the Tufa.

Membership in the cooperative can also be joined at any time thereafter, for example by subscribing to a share via a form or through the homepage.
The Trier Action Alliance eXhaus remains! and the associated association Future in the eXhaus e.V. are planning to establish a cooperative to revitalise the historic and listed Exhaus building as a multi-generational hub for youth work, culture, and social participation in the long term and with the involvement of citizens.
The Exhaus was a youth and cultural centre in Trier-Nord known throughout the region. It was close to its 50th anniversary (founded by the association Exzellenzhaus e.V. in 1972) when it had to close in 2019 due to structural defects, and the association finally went into insolvency during the Corona lockdown in 2020. Many services were conveniently brought together under the Exhaus roof: rehearsal rooms, event spaces, rooms for youth welfare services, and a day nursery.
A registered cooperative (eG) is a legal form in which individuals join together to jointly pursue a specific purpose. It is based on self-help, self-responsibility, and self-management – being both owner and user.
